Today is St. Vardanants Day
Today, February 11, is the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Martyrs of Vardanants on the Armenian Apostolic Church calendar.
Not wanting to renounce their faith and the nation, in 451 Armenian ministers and clergymen led the nation to an imbalanced battle against the Persian army of 200,000 soldiers, which was three times more than Armenia's forces.
Fighting heroically in Avarayr, Vardan Mamikonyan, his soldiers, the 7 notable ministers (Artak Paluni, Khoren Khorkhoruni, Hmayak Dimaksyan, Tatchat Gntuni, Vahan Gnuni, Arsen Entsayetsi, Garegin Srvandztyan and a total of 296 of their noblemen, died.
According to the press divan of the Ararat Patriarchal Diocese, a Holy Mass will be served in all churches on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of the Martyrs of St. Vardanants.
Two days ago, the Armenian Church celebrated the Day of Commemoration of St. Ghevondyants to commemorate the martyrdom of Ghevond Yerets, Catholicos Hovsep Hoghotsmetsi and the seven clergymen who were sent to Persia in chains after the battle in Avarayr and sentenced to death.
