Armenian composer and song writer Ruben Hakhverdyan opposes to the reopening of foreign language schools in Armenia.

"If we lose Armenian, we shall lose our image, our mountains and our skin which protects our face. Our foreign policy is Russian-orientated and the authorities fawn upon Russia," says the composer.

Mr. Hakhverdyan cited a few Armenian songs with wrong articulation. "As Komitas would say song is mentality while Armenians do not realize what a wonderful burden they are shouldering!"

His opponent jazzman Armen Tutunjyan (Chico) thinks foreign-language schools cannot cast a shadow on the Armenian language though he agreed with Hakhverdyan that television and radio play a significant role in moulding musical taste.
