Ombudsman's statement
Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan issued a statement on suicide cases at penitentiaries of the RA Ministry of Justice.
According to the information presented to the Ombudsman's staff, law-enforcement bodies have brought up criminal cases and preliminary inquiries are underway.
The Ombudsman voices hope that all necessary measures will be taken for an objective, complete and multifaceted examination of the mentioned cases, as well as a detailed discussion of the version of suicide.
The Ombudsman calls on the RA Ministry of Justice to take measures for stricter control over people involved in groups that run the risk of hurting themselves, aggression and conflicts, as well as raise the level of activities in social-psychological terms at penitentiaries.
