On hearing the news on the cheese price increase in Yerevan markets, sellers in Kapan refused to sell cheese for several days. They told buyers they did not have cheese or tried to charge an exorbitant price.

"Why should we hurry with the sale? It is not excluded that the cheese price will continue increasing as it went up by 20% in a day. We expect new advance in prices," a local saleswoman told her clients.

Minister of Agriculture Gerasim Alaverdyan explained the sky-high prices in the following way, "The price hike is caused by the demand. Large-scale farmers today sell a liter of milk for AMD 160."

The Minister says the price hike has a seasonal nature and prices will go down in April and May.
