The former principal of the Nubarashen #11 School for Special Needs Children, Meruzhan Yengibaryan, has gone to court to get reinstated as a school administrator.

The plaintiff is disputing the decision of the Minister of Education and Science by which he was dismissed from the post.

Yengibaryan was removed from office in May, 2010 following a scandal involving abuse and sexual assaults on pupils by a teacher of the same school Levon Avagian. Yengibaryan was accused of covering up the abuses.

Yengibaryan's representative Mels Manukyan demanded the court to have reinstated Yengibaryan in the post and cancel the Ministry's decision.

Lilit Vardanyan, a senior representative of the RA Ministry of Science and Education, found the lawsuit unfounded.

"The Director is responsible for the acts of his employees," she said.

As a school director, Meruzhan Yengibaryan was to act within law and prevent the abuse," said Heritage MP Anahit Bakhshyan.

The court sitting was adjourned for three days due to lack of documents.
