Plane carrying U.S. First Lady aborts landing after mistake
A plane carrying U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama had to abort landing after coming dangerously close to a military cargo jet Monday at the Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
The incident was due to a mistake by an air traffic controller. The plane was preparing to land at Andrews Air Force Base when air traffic control instructed the White House plane to execute a series of S-turns so that it would not collide with a 200-ton C-17.
When it became a greater possibility that the C-17 wouldn't be able to get off the runway quickly enough for the White House plane to land, the Andrews controllers instructed the 737 to abort its landing.
Michelle Obama was returning from a TV appearance in New York and was onboard the Boeing 737.
