The residents of the 14 homes located near the Ponchikanots at the Koryun Street and Mashtots Avenue intersection are still waiting for compensation after the fire that broke out six months ago.

Nine families are living on rent with the sums allocated by Yerevan Municipality, but those sums will only be enough to pay the rent until August.

The residents don't know what they will do after that, but they know for a fact that their homes are in the same situation they were six months ago due to lack of construction.

"No government official comes to see us and talk. These people are in a poor state and in distress," Artur Sargsyan told "A1+".

The municipality has declared a contest for the territory, but residents say it won't interest any businessman since the 7,200 square meter area is designed for bushes and one-story garages.

Artur brought up the example of a larger fire that broke out in one of the distant regions of Russia where Prime Minister Putin personally came and assured the residents that they would receive homes in 4 months and fulfilled his pledge.

Artur's wife Maria Aghajanyan recalled the recent Tashir Awards when homes and cars were awarded to those who didn't really need them.

The residents whose homes couldn't be renovated and who didn't wait for government support restored their homes on their own.

The residents only see one way out of the situation and that is to have the government allocate sums as compensation so that they can renovate the homes.
