The Yerevan Circus will be under repair starting August 1. On July 31 the building will host its final performance before closing its doors for public for two years. This is the first renovation since the construction of the circus in 1962.

"The building does not meet the modern standards. Lighting and sound equipment became outdated. The building does not have favourable conditions for animals - it is severely cold in winter and hot in summer," said Circus Art Director Sos Petrosyan.
However, the circus will not suspend its activity during these two years.

"We shall travel to marzes and Karabakh and stage performances there. During the summer months we shall perform shows on the shore of Lake Sevan," said Petrosyan.

Russia-based businessman Samvel Karapetian, the owner of Tashir Grooup, has pledged to invest over $ 10 million in the reconstruction work.

Sos Petrosyan says many businessmen pledged to help the circus and sponsor reconstruction. However, they went back on their promise after they discovered that the circus is not a source of income.
