Icicles remain a major threat
Though snowfall has stopped in Syunik, ice continues to cause numerous inconveniences for drivers and pedestrians. Even experienced drivers find it hard to control cars on icy roads. The road in Shinararner (Constructors) district is one of the most dangerous with its ice-covered steps.
The locals complain that the steps are not cleared off snow. It is impossible to go down the stairs especially in the morning when there is a good chance for fractures.
The sidewalks of the city are also impassable. No bus has gone to the distant Kavart district for a couple of days.
The city stockpiled 100 cubic meters of sand and 50 tons of salt at the beginning of the year. Most of the stocks have been depleted over the past ten days. But if problem of the ice-covered streets can be handled, the icicles hanging from the roofs remain a major threat for locals.
