The RA Ministers of Agriculture and Energy and Natural Resources today signed a memorandum that will provide Vanadzor-Kimprom Company with the opportunity to restart production of fertilizers.

"Production will start in August. First, we will produce carbamid, which is in high demand in the country," said Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan.

Armenia receives fertilizers from abroad. According to Minister Sergo Karapetyan, from now on Armenia will have the opportunity to reduce the number of imported fertilizers and provide villagers with more affordable and high-quality fertilizers.

"This year we will produce 15,000 tons of fertilizers. The most important thing is that we will be organizing local production and won't be spending money to import fertilizers anymore," mentioned the minister.

The minister also touched upon the current state of the regions. The residents of Shirak region are concerned about the drought and the so-called "elite", low quality wheat seeds that the government has given them.

"The government didn't declare that there would be drought this year. Of course, there is less water this year, but overall, wheat production is good this year and we expect a large amount of crops. Of course, there are places where there will be few crops," said Karapetyan.
