Abortions are due to social conditions
The nurses at the maternal ward of Alaverdi Medical Center have conducted 43 abortions in 2010, 67 in 2011 and 37 as of July 12, 2012. Head of the maternal ward, Lyuda Mkrtumyan says the number has reached the 100 mark every year starting five years ago. According to her, the number of abortions has decreased due to emigration and the abortions that have been poorly carried out. Mkrtumyan says 340-350 children are born at the maternal ward in Alaverdy every year.
In 2011 and in the past six months of this year, 81 incomplete abortions have been registered in the maternal ward's register. Among the incomplete abortions are 10 young women's first abortions and the undesired abortions.
