EU ready to render financial assistance to Armenia
Zero customs duty and completely changed economy...
Armenian Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan says this will become reality in a couple of years after Armenia freely enters the free trade zone of the EU and CIS countries.
"Since the CIS and the EU are Armenia's main trade partners, serious prospects are opening for our exporters to have free and unrestricted access to major markets," the minister said during a seminar dedicated to the possible challenges and opportunities of the Armenia-EU talks over Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement.
Mr. Davtyan highlighted the creation of free trade zone for Armenia given the fact that the country's economy is mainly based on export. The first phase of negotiations between Armenia and EU within the framework of the program is already completed, with another two meetings scheduled to take place this year.
Onno Simons, the acting head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, also emphasized the compliance of Armenian products with EU standards as a key prerequisite for the talks.
To this aim, the EU is ready to render financial assistance to Armenia. For his part, Tigran Davtyan stressed that the financial assistance will not imply additional liabilities on the part of Armenia.
