Yerevan Municipality avoids responding local civil initiative
We are Owners of This City civil initiative sent on Oct. 11 a 20-page package of proposals to Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, asking the latter to put an end to violations in Yerevan parks. The package was also sent to media representatives. In the document, the initiative also referred to the collapsed building at 20 Khanjyan Str.
On Nov. 6, the initiative received a defiant response from the Yerevan Municipality which said the raised issues must be considered in the Environmental Commission, which is an advisory body and has not relevant authorities.
Yesterday evening the same issue was put under consideration at the commission, immediately arousing laughter among the members who proposed that the same issues be forwarded to the Yerevan Municipality.
The civil initiative views the response as evidence of inactivity on the Municipality's part and failure to perform its duties.
"We remind once again that the Yerevan Municipality is a local government body financed by taxpayer and must be accountable to Yerevan residents and to the public," the initiative said in a statement.
