Gas price discussions continue amid protests
The Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia today convened another sitting to discuss the new tariffs for natural gas and electricity. In the meantime, over 20 members of the "Let's prevent the hike in natural gas tariffs" initiative group held a protest outside the commission building, demanding access to the sitting.
The protesters were carrying posters that read, "GasProm, get out of here!" "Why are you increasing gas prices in safe Armenia?" "We shall pay as much as we want."
Silva Adamyan, a member of the initiative group, said they had submitted over 300 applications to the Commission, asking for permission to attend the sitting. However, the Commission did not allow them in without explaining its decision. Silva Adamyan says they have also turned to the Ombudsman's Office.
Some media outlets were not allowed to cover the sitting on grounds that they were not accredited.
The group isnow heading for the presidential palace at 26 Baghramyan to continue the protest there.
