PHONETHON LAUNCHED

Today the annual phonethon of pan-Armenian fund “Armenia” was launched. The workers of the fund will phone about 1300 small, medium and large companies in Armenia until November 17 and call on them to have their donation to the program “Revival of Artsakh” initiated by the fund.

BEFRIENDING HIV CARRIERS IS NOT DANGEROUS

“Due to the lack of information HIV/AIDS has become the plague of not only the 20th but also the 21st century”, said Elena Strizhak, expert of the “HIV carriers network in Ukraine” who has arrived in Armenia for cooperation and exchange of experience. Elena Strizhak herself has been a HIV carrier for the last six years. In Ukraine she fights vigorously against discrimination against virus carriers.

GAS SUPPLY HALTED

The patients in medical center “Erebouni” were cold yesterday. It was so cold in the rooms that the relatives of the patients who had just been operated on covered them with blankets regardless of the prohibition of the doctors. The reason of the cold was that the gas supply of the hospital had been halted.

SNOWFALL IN MID NOVEMBER

On November 14 at about 06:50 p.m. the communities of Mets Sepasar, Poqr Sepasar, Ghazanchi, Tavshout, Sizavet, Bavra and Saragyugh in Shirak region were deprived of electricity because of a heavy snowfall.

ELECTRIC CABLES ON THE GAS PIPE

On November 14 at 08:22 p.m. a fire broke out in Shiraz str. 48, Yerevan. A fire brigade left for the site immediately.

15-YEAR-OLD ARMENIAN BOY SUFFOCATED IN RUSSIA

15-yearold Narek Kocharyan was cruelly killed in Ivantevka, Russia, in Saturday. At about 06-07:00 p.m. when he was having a walk with his Russian friends, a number of young people attacked him and stabbed him with knives.

ANOTHER SOURCE OF INCOME FOR ARMENIANS CLOSES

In 2007 only 308 842 foreigners will be able to get legal jobs in Russia. This is 20 000 less than last year. The Russian authorities have announced that the priorities have changed: the Russians must be provided with jobs first.

ARMENIA RATIFIES THE HAGUE CONVENTION ON INTER-COUNTRY ADOPTION

YEREVAN, 14 November 2006 – President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan signed today the Hague Convention on the Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Inter-Country Adoption. The Convention was ratified by the National Assembly on 23 October 2006.

Yesterday head of the court office Hakob Hakobyan phoned editor-in-chief of daily newspaper «Pakagits» Agapi Haykazouni, apologized for what happened and informed that the property of the newspaper will be taken back to its place as it was all due to a misunderstanding, Agapi Haykazouni told.

FIRE IN THE ELECTRIC STATION

On November 9 a fire broke out in the electric station N508 on Chekhov street. A fire brigade arrived at the site immediately. The fire was put out at 05:14 p.m. A number of cables have burned.

ARAM ASATRYAN HAS NOT BEEN POISONED

Aram Asatryan’s requiem will take place today at 06:00 p.m. in his house in Echmiadzin. The relatives and fans of the singer can bid him the final farewell tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in the culture hall after Komitas in Echmiadzin. The funeral will take place at 03:00 p.m. in the Zvartnots cemetery tomorrow.
