Unibank CJSC yesterday stopped issuing loans in the Armenian dram. Talking to A1+, Vardan Atayan, Chairman of the executive board of the bank, said the bank temporarily halted issuing loans. “We took the decision after we became convinced that the loans were taken to buy foreign currency rather than for consumer purposes,” he said. Mr Atayan added that the bank will resume issuing loans when the artificial flurry and panic have passed away. “One should not take a loan of 200 000 drams in order to buy dollar. This creates additional stress,” he said. The Armenian dram has been depreciating against the US dollar in recent day.  Today, the buying price of the dollar was 443 drams and the selling price was 453 drams at Unibank.
