Omar Sharif died at 83
The Egyptian-born famous actor Omar Sharif died at the age of 83. The winner of three Golden Globe awards also appeared in Armenian filmmaker Henri Verneuil’s movie “Mother”, after which he was banned from entering Turkey. Omar Sarif was born in Alexandria, Egypt. He was born a Christian, but later he changed his name and converted to Islam to marry actress Faten Hamama. He studied at Victoria College in Alexandria and later graduated from University of Cairo obtaining a degree in mathematics and physics. He first rose to fame when he starred in epic Lawrence of Arabia - his first English-language film (directed by David Lean, starring: Peter O'Toole, Alec Guinness).
