Ara Khzmalyan: Artistic gerontofilia in theatres
The theatre has ceased to attract young people. Artistic directors are blocking the way of competition, and the same people continue to run our theatres, theatre critic Ara Khzmalyan told media today. “It is time that we see new and young people. There is such a concept in sexology - gerontophilia [the sexual preference for the elderly]. Now we are witnessing artistic gerontofilia. This is a very serious problem,” he said. He says there is a need to change personnel: an artistic director should not have the psychology of a catholicos. “Today we need to talk seriously and say what we want and expect from the theatre and understand the ways to achieve our goals,” he said.
