The charge of Nerses Poghosyan, who has been detained for the high profile case of keeping and transporting a large amount of weapons and ammunition, has been toughened. “Under Article 235, Part 3, illegal procurement, transportation, keeping or carrying of weapons, explosives or explosive devices committed by an organized group,” said advocate Arayik Papikyan. Nerses Poghosyan is in custody along lines of the same case as leader of “Centennial without the regime” movement Jirayr Sefilyan. His relatives know why he is in custody. “He didn’t give testimony against Sefilyan. I personally have heard about Sefilyan from the media outlets. It is like someone now comes and tells me to give testimony against Sefilyan; how can I do that? He said that he didn’t know who he is and how he could give testimony. He even didn’t meet Sefilyan,” said Nerses Poghosyan’s sister Satenik Varzhapetyan. Nerses Poghosyan has been in custody for 6 months. Besides changing the charge, according to the words of the advocate, no other investigative actions have been carried out. The advocate considers this case to be political. “The case may have been solved in the legal platform long ago, but under existing conditions, I think, it will have political solution,” said the advocate. The preliminary investigation body today has applied to the court for extending Nerses Poghosyan’s precautionary measure, detention, for two more months. The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan Arabkir and Kanaker-Zeytun administrative districts upheld the mediation.
