“Kiraki”: 90 percent of Armenian women conceal violence against them (video)
Annually 2,000 cases of domestic violence are recorded, while the actual number is higher. According to various studies, 90 percent of Armenian women hide the domestic violence against them. Today the gender-based violence is one of the most prevalent and worrisome human rights violations in the world. During the last five years, 30 women have been killed in Armenia as a result of domestic violence (by a partner or other family member). By now, just four of these murderers have been sentenced. The impunity for the killings of women has become a global concern. The week’s topic of “Kiraki” (Sunday) is dedicated to the International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women. The program hosted Susanna Vardanyan, Chairman of the Women’s Rights Center NGO and Bagrat Ghazinyan, Head of the Legislative Development and Legal Studies Department of the RA Ministry of Justice. Our colleagues from “Lori” (Vanadzor) and “Tsayg” (Gyumri) TV companies prepared videos on this topic.
