"If Serzh Sargsyan were not a smoker, the bill would have been adopted long ago" (video) (video)
Support A1+!Yesterday the National Assembly of Armenia passed, in the first reading, the antismoking bill banning smoking in public places in the country.
In 2004, Armenia joined the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, and since 2008, the country has been marking October 12 as National Day of Fight against Tobacco.
According to Davit Petrosyan, an adviser to the National Institute of Health, if President Serzh Sargsyan were not a smoker, it would have been possible to pass the antismoking law at the time.
In Petrosyan's impression, many at that time avoided pushing this issue ahead because Sargsyan was against it.
But at present, there is political will, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has also expressed his support for such a bill, and therefore "it is the right time to pass."
What will the antismoking bill change in our lives?
Will people in Armenia abandon the “bondage” of nicotine?
